SONGS THAT THREATEN POWER: VEDAN, CASTE CRITIQUE, AND THE STATE’S RESPONSE

 











               The recent efforts to undermine Vedan’s voice and marginalize his socio-political ideas cannot be seen as coincidental, especially in a state like Kerala, governed by a party that identifies itself with leftist ideologies. Whose chest is tearing apart due to the ideas in Vedan's song? Who is disturbed due to people's acceptance on Vedan's song which is against caste system ? There is no answer to the question that why they created a drama of making up a case of leopard tooth pendant case when they couldn't remand Vedan for the case which he was arrested for cannabis possession. It is crystal clear about the people who were desired to be rejected the ideas put forward by Vedan , through the responses in social media against Vedan after his arrest . 

                Not only Vedan got bail in leopard tooth pendant case but also the court declared that in prima facie, the case does not hold up in court. Only after that, we ought to see C.P.M state secretary , leaders and forest department minister are shedding tears by the name of Vedan. The opposition party was also responded after the verdict of court. The ruling party and opposition party may be kept silence by fearing the displeasure of elite class. 

               Some of the events are enough to understand government's injustices and discriminations happened against Vedan by the name of leopard tooth under the cover of law. Everyone has seen an ornament like leopard tooth in the neck of our union minister who dreams of being a brahmin in his next life. But so far, it is unknown whether the police or the forest department haven't even issued a notice to investigate to prove it's fact. But the administration strived to silence Vedan who heavily fought against upper caste hegemony like firestorm. This contrast underscores the double standards in the application of law and the targeted repression of those who challenge caste hierarchies and elite dominance.
